| Department of Nephrology Division
Nephrology Division at Peking University People’ Hospital was set up in 1988. With 20 years development, the division can offer a comprehensive program for managing kidney disease, involving the diagnosis and treatment of patients with renal disease, acute and chronic kidney injury and blood purification tharapy. Now,it is the training base for nephrologists, national pharmacological base and a joint-member of national emphasis subject.
patient care service
The patient care service provided by the Division of Nephrology coveres all aspects of our clinical discipline including acute and chronic glomerulonephritis, genetic kidney disease, secondary glomerulonephritis, acute and chronic tubular and interstitial disease ,acute and chronic renal failure. Moreover, we have a large dialysis ( hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis) program for over 200 patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) .
Renal Disease
It is a collaborative effort of members of the Nephrology Division at Peking University People’ Hospital and Renal Pathology Division at Peking University. Through the Center, members collaborate in clinical , laboratory research and educational activities. Currently over 700 renal biopsies are processed annually. Weekly the Renal Pathology Department at Peking University and Renal Division at Peking University People’ Hospital conduct a clinical renal pathology conference. This provides a large resource for diagnosing and treating kidney disease and studying the relationship between renal histopathology and the clinical features, course, and outcome of the patients. Based on the EBM guideline, we provide specialized medical services to patients, with the goal of slowing the progression and improving outcome of chronic kidney disease.
Dialysis Program
All types of dialysis are available, including:
- Hemodialysis
- Peritoneal dialysis
- Continuous renal replacement therapy
- Hemoperfusion for drug overdose
- Plasma Exchange
Dialysis Program offers a broad range of treatment modalities for patients with acute renal failure, including intermittent hemodialysis, continuous hemofiltration, hemodialysis, hemodiafiltration. and peritoneal dialysis. Our state-of-the-art facility offers outpatients hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis at home training for adult and pediatric patients.
- Hemodialysis uses a man-made membrane (dialyzer) to filter wastes and remove extra fluid from the blood. It is usually done in a hospital dialysis center with 3 times per week.
- Peritoneal dialysis uses the linking of the abdominal cavity (peritoneal membrane) and dialysate to remove wastes and extra fluid from the body. Treatment can be done at home with three to five times each day or ten hours at night by peritoneal dialysis machine.
Research
The research activities of our faculty cover a broad range of kidney disease from bench to bedside. Current research involved area includes primary and secondary glomerular diseases , renal tubular electrolyte transport, complications of Chronic Kidney Disease, and dialysis.
Especially, we focus on bone and mineral metabolism in chronic kidney disease and its effect on cardiovascular disease.
Teaching
The nephrology training program provides comprehensive training in clinical nephrology and dialysis. Clinical training is provided in all facets of nephrology, including the diagnosis and treatment of chromic kidney disease, acute kidney injury and end-stage renal disease (ESRD), in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. There is a training course each week, professor medical round and clinical & pathological conference every week.
Journal:Chinese Blood Purification
The Journal of Chinese Blood Purification has been one of the core journals since 2005. After 7 years development, its affection becomes more and more important. This journal is featured in practical and empirical study on hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and continuous renal replacement therapy. The content forms include original articles(clinical and Basic reseach), editorial, new technology and method, review, experience exchange, case report and etc. The rournal faces the doctors nurses and technicions working in this field of dialysis.
