Nuclear Medicine Department

The Nuclear Medicine Department of Peking University People’s Hospital was formerly the isotopic laboratory which was founded by Prof. Liu Gengnian in 1958 and was one of china’s first isotopic laboratories. As the in vitro radioassay has been applied in China, in 1984, the endocrine laboratory which was founded by Prof. Yang Zongyu merged with the isotopic laboratory and thus, the Nuclear Medicine Department, providing in vivo and in vitro radionuclide examinations and radionuclide therapy, was formally founded.

Since 2006, Dr. Wang Qian, the current Director of the Department, has always been emphasizing on the improvement of the medical level and advocating the rigorous and scientific working style. She also established the system of inquiry, collective image interpretation and inter-department academic activities. In recent years, the workflow was re-standardized and more than 10 new examinations were carried out. Through close cooperation with clinical physicians and application of unique diagnostic method, it reached a high diagnostic level in various kinds of disease, especially in endocrine tumors, gynecological tumors and skeletal tumors. Over 30 scientific papers were published in key periodical, both nationally and internationally, and the Department has earned great reputation in its field.

The current Nuclear Medicine Department has a total of 7 physicians, 7 technicians as well as 1 nurse practitioner. The work that had been carried out includes radionuclide imaging, radionuclide therapy and radiometric analysis. A total of 31 kinds of imaging examinations were carried out and over 7000 examinations have been done in 2008.
