Department of Hypertension

Department of Hypertension of Peking University People’s Hospital was established in October, 1999. It was the first ward-style professional department of hypertension among large general hospitals in Beijing. Since its establishment, Professor Sun Ning-ling has been serving as the director. Supported by the former directors of the Department of Cardiology, Professor Xu Cheng-bin and Professor Jiang Bao-qi, and the incumbent director of cardiac center, Professor Hu Da-yi, Department of Hypertension continues developing and growing. Nowadays, there are one vice-director, ten doctors, seventeen technicians and nursing staff in this department.

The main feature of Department of Hypertension lies in “Focus on hypertension, pay close attention to the treatment of all cardio-cerebral vascular risk factors”. In recent ten years, out-patient clinics of specialty and specialist have been set up, and the highest number of out-patients was up to 30,000 per year. Based on the platform of hypertension laboratory, many related scientific researches and clinical pharmacological works have been carried out and accomplished, including National Grant, Spark Program, Fund issued by Ministry of Public Health, et al. Furthermore, the other two National Projects, National S&T Support Program and National High-tech R&D Program have been taken charge and carried out. About ten international clinical pharmacological trials have been performed and completed successfully. Hundreds of articles had been published in domestic and international journals, and some monographs had been printed.

Professor Sun Ning-ling, a doctoral tutor, is the leadership of this subject. And now she is the associate-director commission of Chinese Medical Association Hypertension Expert Committee, the deputy secretary-general and the council member of China Hypertension League, the commission of National Pharmacopeia Committee, the vice-chief editor of Chinese Journal of Geriatric Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases, and the vice-chief editors of Chinese Journal of Hypertension, et al. In the team led by Professor Sun, two persons have completed post-doctor programme, four persons obtained doctor degrees, and five persons obtained master degrees.

At present, Department of Hypertension is carrying out clinical works and scientific researches in all directions, its prestige and influencing power boost increasingly, based on the established platform, including special diagnosis, differential diagnosis, training and integrate control.
