Department of Geriatrics

The department of geriatrics of Peking University People’s Hospital was established in 1985. Presently, there are 39 sickbeds and 40 staff, including 17 doctors and 23 nurses. The present director is professor Miao Yide. The annual outpatient amount exceeds 40,000 and the number of inpatient is about 700~800.

Through the endeavor of more than 20 years, our department has become a highly professional level clinical department with stable medical and nurse staff. The service targets of department of geriatrics are mostly the senior people above 70 and the major diagnosis and treatment scope is general senior internal diseases. During a long period of clinical work, the geriatric doctors have accumulated rich clinical experience of the above-mentioned diseases and are good at treating the patient with quite a few diseases. 

In recent years, our department published over 60 articles in many medical journals and quite a few monographs such as Common Diseases of Senior People. Since People’s Hospital is a clinical teaching hospital, the department also assumes the internal medicine teaching of some medical students, general practitioners and refresher doctors. Meanwhile, our department has been committing to the health science popularization. Through years of endeavor, our department is of some influence in the field of geriatrics.
