Department of Spinal Surgery

Department of Spinal Surgery, Peking University People’s Hospital is one of the earliest established spinal centers in China, specialized in clinical treatment and basic scientific research of spinal diseases. The annual number, complexity of surgery and the satisfaction rate of operated patients are at the leading position nationally.

The staffs in the department are young and energetic. About 600 complicated spinal operations are performed annually. More than 3000 spinal surgeries have been performed since the establishment of our department and no serious neurological complication such as quadriplegia has happened.

American intra-operative Axon surveillance system was introduced to prevent neurological damages during surgery. Minimally invasive and microsurgical instruments guarantee the precision and safety of our surgery.

Six academicians from both Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering received spinal surgery in our department ever since. The vice Chairman of CPPCC (Chinese People's Political Consultative Committee)-QIAN Zheng-ying once visited our department and gave our department high evaluation.

As a nationally leading department of spinal surgery, we recently began to research on minimally invasive surgery and functional reconstruction of spine for further development while continue to focus on the surgical treatment of complicated spinal diseases.
