Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology

   The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Peking University People's Hospital was established by the famous expert in Obstetrics and Gynecology-- Prof. Lin Qiaozhi in April 1942. Now it has been developed into a comprehensive subject with five parts. They are Gynecology, Obstetrics, Family Planning/Reproductive Medicine and Gynecologic Oncology Center. The annual quantity of clinical cases reaches more than 200 thousand, and the annual operation quantity reaches 5,000. During the development of those several decades, the Department of Gynecology always focuses on the diagnosis and the treatment of gynecology oncology. It has won six Ministry-level Science and Technology Awards and one Ministry-level Technology Invention Award in basic and clinical research of ovarian cancers, endometrial cancers and cervical cancers. It shows a great influence in the diagnosis and the treatment of female pelvic diseases and cervical lesions in China. The Department of Obstetrics is one of the first prenatal diagnosis centers in Beijing; it has accumulated a wealth of experiences in the diagnosis and treatment of high-risk pregnancy and pregnant complications. Painless childbirth method is developed here, the prenatal and postnatal safety and health care for the pregnant and infants are led into a leading level in Beijing. The Department of Reproductive Medicine developed various assisting reproductive technologies (such as ovulation induction, monitoring ovulation, artificial insemination, in vitro fertilization and intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection) and has become one of a few centers with standardized and systematic treatment currently in China.
